W.I.P.: Mabon

If your character's biography was moved here, chances are it needed some additional work. Place your own works in progress here for easier storage. Label them clearly with the W.I.P. acronym.

W.I.P.: Mabon

Post by Weirdlet »

Name: Mabon
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Species: Fae changeling, lizard anthro (clarification on the changeling template and how it applies to other species) Winter leanings.

Strengths: By most definitions mortal, Mabon is very new to the use of his Fae heritage, but has a few tricks. Mabon is wiry, quick on his feet, and well-practiced in dodging blows. He is not supernaturally stealthy as of yet, but is very good at keeping quiet and still and waiting for the rest of the world to forget about him, until he can listen in at length and quietly slip away. If he gets caught, he has one particular trick that’s served him well- by making direct, close-range eye-contact (about five feet), Mabon can temporarily paralyze someone, freezing them in mid-stride. This allows him to back away, maintaining eye-contact until escape presents itself and he can use the momentary disorientation of breaking free in order to bolt.

Survival is a talent, one that Mabon has honed over the years of his adolescence. He can make himself eat what he can find, he can find the places that hurt with his teeth, claws and elbows, and he is not nearly as dumb as people assume he is, based on his looks and background. When the opportunity arises, he has a sound tactical mind and can quickly add up resources and disadvantages to figure out if a particular move is a sound one, or at least likely to minimize pain while still gaining the objective.
Weaknesses: While not markedly weak for someone of his stature, Mabon is not a direct-confrontation sort of fellow- not unless he has no other choice. When forced to engage physically in melee, he resorts to whatever dirty tricks are necessary in order to disengage and remove himself to higher ground. Otherwise, he shares the Fae vulnerability to iron- which he unfortunately courts by keeping a small iron knife secreted away.

Psychologically, Mabon’s weaknesses are twofold and contrasting. On the one hand, he finds it very hard to trust others, having experienced much in the way of betrayal and unreliability from those he was supposed to have in his corner. And on the other- he has not yet been able to harden his heart completely. He very much *wants* to be able to trust others, and to have a place and people to which he belongs. Further- he can justify leaving behind or just not caring about most adults or beings of equal stature, but the small and the helpless, he tries to avoid doing harm to. It’s just not always possible, with who he’s aligned himself.

Appearance: Were he to refrain from hunching, Mabon might stand at 5’10”. His Fae ancestry aside, he himself is a skinny, dusty-colored lizard anthro of indeterminate parent species. His scaly skin is in dark earth-tones and dull, over a frame that says short meals and much running. Bulbous yellow eyes are usually half-lidded and sleepy-looking, both to put others off-guard and to avoid springing his ‘turn-to-stone’ trick on everyone in his path.

His voice sounds like he’s been smoking a lot longer than he actually has, a trick of his reptile heritage.

Typically dresses in tshirts and sweats, cheap, easy-to-move-in clothes that don’t attract attention.
Behavior: It’s been noted that many comedians start that way because it’s hard for bullies to aim when they’re laughing too hard to breathe. Mabon is a quieter version of that kid- he’s often smarter than the gang he runs with, but doesn’t show it off to avoid becoming a target. When he does start snarking, it’s usually because there’s nothing further he can do to avoid becoming the focus of someone’s ire, and gallows humor comes naturally to him. When it comes to preparation, for a mission or simply to face the day, he is methodical and organized, traits that he developed to combat the chaos of his life and to channel the stress of it.

Trust but verify, doesn’t let people know that he’s paranoid about them, keeps it friendly. Knows he’s low man on the totem pole, and wants to get a few steps up so there’s a layer between him and the hungry dog crowd.

Goals: To survive, and to find a place for himself that will let him feel secure and purposeful.

History:

Born on wrong side of tracks, unknowing Fae heritage between poor parents.
Saw very little in the way of support growing up- there just wasn’t time, or energy, or money enough in the house. Ran with the other kids on the block, but an outsider even there.
Home eventually broken, foster system mixed with street-living. Petty crime to survive, fairly successful, but friends are only for a given definition of friendship when police are involved. Being the idea guy gets you the blame when you share too much.

Observed by local small-fry Fae, finally recruited when an arrest occurred and there was no help to be had elsewhere. Bailed, charges taken care of, and now he’s part of a low-level Winter changeling gang, the sort cultivated to keep potentials close and train them.
