Ciaran McConmara

Post by TennyoCeres84 »

Name: Ciaran McConmara
Age: 25 years old
Gender: male
Species: roane/selkie

Strengths: Like his sisters’, Ciaran’s abilities have started manifesting. He has been gifted with invisibility. His body cannot be seen when he chooses to disappear, in all types of light in the spectrum. His overall personality seems to be influencing this ability to where it can become a perception filter. It allows him to coax people into ignoring his presence.
He is telepathic like all selkies are. He can send words, images and emotions through the link he’ll broadcast to someone.
Like his kin, he can change form with the aid of his sealskin.
He learned English, Selkie, Inuktuit, some French and some Irish Gaelic from his parents.
With his occupation as a dockworker, he knows how to work a forklift and other related heavy machinery.
The roane has developed a knack for sleight of hand as well as learning to do whittling while working with his father.

Weaknesses:
Ciaran’s most notable weakness is his sealskin. Take it away from him or harm it, and you will prevent him from changing forms or potentially do significant damage to him.
With his invisibility, he cannot make things around him invisible, including clothes. This means that he has to strip down if he wishes to remain unseen. Also, while he is able to use the perception aspect of this power on people, he cannot manipulate it against cameras or other devices as they do not have minds. He’ll have to evade them, if they are somehow able to pick up invisible selkies.
Much like his sisters’, his telepathy can be erratic in its reliability to not pick up others’ thoughts or broadcast his own.
His quiet and shy personality tends to make people think he’s a pushover. To some degree, he is passive and might not always go for the jugular. He may have to be prodded into action, but he does still get the job done.

Appearance:
When people look at Ciaran, they see him as the strong, silent type. He comes across as a dependable worker, but a little odd at times. Some mistakenly assumed that when he’s quiet that he’s just like the aloof McLochs. He’ll just tend to make a quick reply and shrug them off.

Standing at 5’10”, he weighs 164 pounds. His physique denotes muscle of a lean and functional type, one stemming more from heavy lifting than doggedly pumping iron. His light-skinned, oval face bears round, but almond-shaped, brown eyes. The black curls fall in a somewhat messy, short style with light facial hair lining his jaw, chin and above his top lip. A couple rows of pointy, sharp teeth fill his mouth. Webs can be found in between his clawed fingers and toes.

He’ll usually be found wearing a t-shirt, jeans and steel-toed shoes, but will vary it up depending on the weather.

In his phocine form, Ciaran resembles a large bull harbor seal with a mostly black coat with gray/silver splotches on it.

Behavior:
If someone was comparing the McConmara offspring, they would see Ciaran as the simplest. He will work hard to live, but he does not really want much out of life. Simple pastimes like reading, hanging with friends and family and others are what he wants. As long as he can eat and help Aislinn with the rent, he’s happy. The urbane urge to collect more and more objects to fill one’s void or earn a huge paycheck isn’t part of his M.O.

His laidback nature often causes people to think he’s a bump on a log, but he will react in anger if pushed. Ciaran will admit his passive personality partly developed due to his sisters’ dominant personalities that pushed him out of the limelight; a large portion of it also comes from being picked on. He cares for his sisters and has been known to act as a moderator between them when things get to be just a little too heated.

His tendency to almost be forgotten about has shaped him to be something of a prankster. Without his invisibility, Aislinn and Neasa will both note how he was able to scare the living daylights out of him when they were kids. He was able to hide objects from his family as a trick to remind him that he was there.

In regards to his ability, he feels that it’s something of a useless one. Nigel Griffin would more than likely beg to differ, but he sometimes wishes he had been born with some other power. He muses he can’t exactly go streaking about his job without people wondering about his trustworthiness on the job. The fact of supernaturals using their talents being frowned upon didn’t exactly help either while growing up. Once the security expert shows him the ropes, his opinion on his stealthy ability will improve.

In contrast to the tales of selkie men being regular lady killers, he doesn’t have a ton of notches on the bedpost. He’s slept with a few women and a couple men, but doesn’t always go out of his way to pursue someone. Granted, if he finds someone he’s really attracted to, he might just go after that certain someone more directly.

Goals:
Quite simply, Ciaran’s main goal is to keep making a living to support his self and enjoy life. However, with the looming threat, he feels called to help protect his home, along with his sisters.

History: Ciaran was born on the summer solstice with his twin sister, Aislinn, in 2000. The first few years of his life were fairly standard for any boy. Time would show that he was close to his mother, Sedna. He was the shy daydreamer who had his head up in the clouds.

However, as he got a bit older and entered his school years, his cozy daydreams took a backseat. School could sometimes be a bit rough for any member of a species that fell under the recent SuReCa policies. Like his sisters, he made friends with some students, but fell prey to the taunting and cruel jokes and names given by his more prejudiced classmates. One incident was when some bullies threw week-old chum at the McConmara children after school, including jeers of “Go back to the sea!” and “Here’s your lunch, seals! Arf! Arf!”
Upon telling their parents, the bullies and their parents would receive some sharp words from the McLoch community. While the phocine dragons didn’t always understand the non-fisherfolk selkies, they stood by them nonetheless.
Afterward, all that could be done was for them to stick together and watch each other’s backs. Their friends at school reminded Ciaran, Aislinn, and Neasa that not every mundane was a jerk.

The roane was about 13 when his invisibility initially kicked in. He was out biking with his sisters when the two girls saw their brother’s bike being driven by a bike helmet, t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. The shock from the event caused the male selkie to crash his bike and end up with a few scrapes. Unfortunately, the ability disappeared as quickly as it manifested. It would be several more years before the Centennial Tree would awaken it again.

During his high school years, Ciaran worked various part-time jobs with the local fishermen and helped his father with his salvaged wood and house items business. Over the course of a few years, he learned to use machinery like forklifts. This aided in his eventual job as a longshoreman. He began saving up money to move out of the small houseboat he had lived on and began helping Aislinn renovate an old warehouse that would doubt as her tattoo parlor with an upstairs apartment, where he now lives.

With the recent events shaking Hope to its core, he wants to contribute with the fledgling organization of superheroes by focusing his awakened powers and helping out where he can.
